XB-LINE-1694
Line Name: Xla.hps4m
Summary
Synonym: X laevis albino, periodic albino
Species: Xenopus laevis
Background Strain: Xla.Inbred
Description: This periodic albino mutant of Xenopus laevis is a recessive mutant. Fukazawa et al 2020 showed that a 1.9 kb genomic deletion in the hps4.L gene including exons 7 and 8 caused a premature stop codon to create a truncated Hps4 protein, and via rescue with hps4 mRNA, where normal pigmentation developed, that hps4 was the gene mutated. This X laevis mutant is widely used in research, world wide. Waiting to hear from stock centers as to whether their frogs carry the mutated hps4 gene.
Phenotype Description: albino, reduced amounts of melanin appear in the retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) and in melanophores at the late embryonic stage, after which both RPE and melanophores gradually depigment.
Color Morph: albino
Breeding Type: OUTBRED
Line Type: Mutant
Mutated Gene(s): hps4.L
MTA Required: No
Public: Yes
Anatomical Phenotypes: hps4.L
Disease Phenotypes: hps4.L
