Job Description

The Department of Medical and Molecular Genetics at Indiana University School of Medicine is seeking applicants at the Postdoctoral Fellow level. The Ware lab investigates the genetic and developmental basis of pediatric heart disease. We analyze genetic variation in samples from patients with congenital heart defects and utilize mouse, Xenopus and cell-based models to assess these variants. Our lab also uses these models to study genes previously linked to congenital cardiac defects, with a particular focus on left-right patterning genes. Qualifications The successful candidates must have a Ph.D. degree with a strong research background in genetics and/or developmental biology. Candidates should have experience with mouse or Xenopus models and molecular biology techniques. Experience collecting/processing mouse embryos, particularly at early stages of development, is highly desirable. Experience with cell culture, immunofluorescence or in situ hybridization would be considered a plus. The candidates must be self-motivated, well-organized and comfortable mentoring graduate students in basic techniques. A successful candidate must have experience collecting/analyzing/interpreting data and will be expected to participate in manuscript preparation and grant development. It is highly desirable for the holders of this position to develop research projects with strong potential for long-term NIH funding, and to have demonstrated the ability to collaborate with others. Applications will be received until the position is filled.
